My truck doesn't have a readout for mileage, etc., but DW's does and several prior vehicles did. I often calculated mileage separately and have found the readout number is a few tenths higher than miles/gallons method. This is true when I stop filling when the pump shuts down by itself, not just when I top it off. Not sure just what this reflects. But since speedometer and odometers are accurate checked against pole mounted radars and GPSs, I guess the readout is probably pretty darn close.
