Diesel actually takes less steps in the refining process. The cost is higher than gas. This is just to make the oil companies rich. The prices are going up because travel season is approaching. Law of supply and demand. Gas here for regular is high $3.60s and diesel is $4.10 at the cheapest places.
Seems to me that the travel season is still at least 3 months away up here. We don't see leaves on the trees until after ice out by the second week in May. Two stations up here have raised their prices to $3.64 from $3.54 for regular gasoline. Most of the rest are at $3.54 with several still at $3.49. Diesel is creeping up with the highest at $4.17 with the lowest at $3.90. At this rate prices will be at $4.00 by March for gasoline. Hang on tight, fasten the seat belt and have the barf bag ready for a bumpy ride.
