Gas and oil. About 3/4 acre of land is used to drill down about 8,000 to 10,000 feet down (mile of solid rock below water table). A road is built in for this. 6 or 8 wells are drilled here. At the lower level the wells go horizontal in different directions and go off for a mile or so. The layer of shale is fractured with about a million gallons of water (about what an average golf course uses in 2 weeks, sand, and chemicals frequently found under your kitchen sink. New fluids are all food grade. This process takes about 5 to 8 days. Multiple layers of pipe and cement are installed. Whole process takes about 6 weeks. Oil and gas are trucked to nearest pipeline or pipeline is placed next to road. Well is producing for 30 years with regular maintenance. Land returns to normal as only a small footprint is left. (less than an acre).
