I think they normally use Bunker C which is the cheapest form of oil product. I know we recently kept an aircraft carrier in port becasue it was too expensive for fuel.
All of the Navy's aircraft carriers (and submarines) are powered by nuclear reactors. there are other costs that out weigh fuel.
