I'm in New Zealand on vacation visiting family and thought y'all might like to hear about fuel costs in this part of the world for comparison. After translating NZ dollars to American dollars and liters to gallons, the price for regular gas is $6.69 a gallon average and as low as $6.39 with discounts from a grocery store like Safeway does. The real eye opener was the octane. Regular here is 91 and premium in 97. Considering that in the USA regular is 87 octane with premium 91 or 92, I'd have to say to compare apples to apples, I'd have to price American premium costs to NZ regular costs. Seems premium around CA is around $4.50 a gallon. About 2 bucks less than NZ regular.
Diesel however, is almost the same in NZ as it is in California; around $4.50 a gallon or so. Lots more cars over in NZ use diesel too. Brand names of cars are familiar; Mazda for example, but models are not familiar and many are diesel.
