I hope by the time our little diesel smart cars wear out there will be a larger diesel market place in North America. It would be hard to get any less than 70 MPG again :) Having said that something like a Prius plug in hybrid would be a better fit for us as our commute is only about 26 KM per day. Essentially our day to day drive would be on straight electric everyday.
We spent some time in Central America last year. Half the cars on the road there are diesel. Very rare to see anything made in the US or Canada there. Most vehicles come from Mexico and overseas. The tough part is importing them. Would be nice if we could get a little more access to the smaller economical vehicles available in the world instead of the big heavy junk produced up here.
