No debt here, but I don't think others would be paying for it if I did. Certainly don't think anybody did during those years we had mortgages. Jimmy Carter days they were at over 14%. I do know I am paying for wind and solar though both as a taxpayer and ratepayer. Fortunately, most of the solar projects went bankrupt before wasting too much money.
If you itemized your interest as a deduction you avoided paying some taxes. So your home loan was subsidized by the rest of the taxpayers just the same as you feel you are paying for these EVs, solar & wind projects. Nothing wrong with taking deductions but not everyone gets the same.
BTW California is the largest tax donor state. This means CA has the largest deficit for paying Federal taxes vs receiving Federal benefits. NOBODY is subsidizing CA as we net contribute more than ANY OTHER STATE. FL is also a doner but ranked #17
