Can't argue with your decision. But don't today's computer driven engines detect the low octane and adjust timing? When I heard of that many years ago I wondered if that wouldn't be a bad thing. I might keep on driving bad gas and hurt the engine over time because I didn't hear the pinging.
I notice much better performance in my DW's new 5.4 over her previous 3. Probably due to an increase in horsepower that makes up for a good portion of the nearly 30% loss of power at 9000'.
