29% of the natural gas coming up with the oil in North Dakota is still being flared off as of Dec. 2013. 70% of propane production comes from natural gas and 30% from the natural gas that comes up with the oil. In Alaska's North Slope oil producers have never been allowed to flare off the natural gas, they are required to re-inject it in the well.
In North Dakota the mineral rights owners have filed a class action lawsuit against the oil companies to be paid for the $100 mil/month in natural gas that the oil companies are flaring off.
