- The shortage in 1974 was more due to Nixon taking us off the gold standard. Dollar fell in value and OPEC simply wanted the same value which was a higher price to America. Nixon also gave us price fixing to control the resulting inflation. There was no shortage of oil... just a shortage of oil available within the fixed price.
I like the idea of saving our oil for emergency military needs. However right now IMO our military is burning a lot of oil to keep the oil trade flowing. If we imported less (or none) then the military could reduce consumption. - cekkkExplorerEnjoy, Guys. I'm unsubscribing for the time being.
God, grant me the serenity... ;) - SRTExplorerWell, up here the gas stations that tried for a price of $3.39 a gallon failed. They have dropped their prices back down to $3.29. I guess their try at increased profits failed. Too bad, so sad...:R
- cekkkExplorerJust went into town and noticed diesel has dropped to around 3.65. Gas in still in the 3.30s.
I paid 3.50 something for $5 worth of 97 octane for the weed whacker. 97 is mid grade in our world. - John___AngelaExplorer1.23 per litre for diesel in Lethbridge today. Headed across the border for the winter within the winter...assuming they don't shut down the border. :)
- BumpyroadExplorer$2.959 in South Hill, VA
bumpy - archie18ExplorerActually down to $2.99 at a few stations in Middle Tenn. I was in Needles,CA last week and paid $4.29, crossed the river into Arizona and it was $3.79 less than a mile away.

Prices of regular gasoline have dropped in many cases. $3.24 to $3.29. But several stations are now posting $3.39. Oil is "only" $101.6x this morning.
Hohum.....................
Yup, Hohum... Well, the gasoline glut must be over. The new price seems to be $3.39. Up from $3.24. So prices climb back up until ???? happens, then drop. Seems we've been on a price roller coaster for a few years. Maybe we all should take a month or so off from driving as price check.
