- LindsayRichardsExplorerWell, I agree again. The problem is Tomtom continually brags about how green he is when he does almost nothing to do actually be green. Gets his electricity from fossil fuels and doesn't buy the commercially available wind and solar for his own electricity. If he wants to talk the talk, he needs to walk the walk or stop bragging to the forum about his great green strides.
- qtla9111NomadGas prices/cash or credit?
Not sure if this post goes here. We are traveling the U.S. and Canada and have found that in the U.S. they have two prices at most stations.
Some stations charge a flat .35 fee for using a debit card. Other stations charge a higher fuel price for credit/debit versus cash.
How does this work? Does the station really pay that much in commission for accepting Visa/MasterCard? - LindsayRichardsExplorerWhat makes it my business is when you constantly complain about fossil fuels and post misleading information about them when you use them almost exclusively. You even try to make others think you are not a green hypocrite when that is exactly what you are. When you actually provide electricity for your home with wind and solar, then you can take some credit and stop being just a poser. Hopefully your government paid lease will expire and you will have to actually spend your own money on something green. I doubt it.
- LindsayRichardsExplorerSo I guess that means that you will continue to use your electricity from fossil fuels rather than equip your home with the existing wind and solar technology. It is legal and encouraged in your state. No credibility at all.
- RambleOnNWExplorer IIJust google it, it is in the news:

- Desert_CaptainExplorer IIITook 40 gallons here in central MA in preparation for the Memorial Day run up to Maine, paid $3.49. Also added 7.5 gallons of LP @ $4.13 a gallon.
:C - SRTExplorerSeems that the fuel prices have been stable for a few weeks. Gasoline remains at $3.43 to $3.49. Diesel at $3.99. But we can bet prices will increase when it warms up some more.
As to alternate fuels..... Seems I saw or read something that somebody was putting up some hydrogen refueling stations for the hydrogen fuel cells. So maybe there will be some real-life testing. - FezziwigExplorer

So you are OK with the unsubsidised ROI of the numerous wind and solar plants we have built?
I'm generally against all subsidies, especially subsidies to purely commercial companies. Some subsidies may be required for municipal functions like fresh water and waste water handling because such a profound common resource as the water cycle is involved.
Subsidies to commercial operations means that the government is picking winners and losers, which undermines enterprise competition, the sole justification for capitalism, thus presaging violent bloody revolution, nobodies favorite. Thus, everyone loses.
If we subsidize sea shipping we must subsidize rail shipping, and then trucking, etc. Maybe if subsidies were limited by duration or something, they would work better, and then lapse. But that's not what we do. Once a subsidy is created it lives on forever, like an automaton.
Subsidies have dreadful consequences, so it would be best to eliminate unfair subsidies, but instead we add new subsidies, believing that subsidising everyone will be as good as subsidising noone, but we're wrong.
Unfortunately, the system that allows Chevron to make $40billion in profits to shareholders without collecting a cent of taxes for corporate profits must also subsidize a potential competitor like solar or wind, else it risks getting it's "fair and balanced" certificate revoked.
