Remove the cover from the thermostat. Depending on the model there is two styles of anticipator. One is a bar with a small arm. The arm needs to be about .8. The other style is a small disc with a small screwdriver slot. Turn the arrow to about .8.
I doubt this is the problem unless the coil is open.
Did you try connecting the wires together?
