RV Market

From the large number of RV's on the road this summer it appears to be a sellers market.

What is the proper procedure to go through to sell an RV and avoid a scam?

  • I've had good success through the years by parking the unit in a visible place with a good for sale sign stating a price which would probably be on the low side(my purpose is to sell it, not make money). Craigslist would be OK with caution but also try it's something like rv for sale on line or rv.net. Have the buyer sign a statement of what he is paying, date and stating he is buying it "as is" and seller will bear no responsibility for any problems once it's signed and money taken. Include any potential safety issues such as tires being worn etc.
  • Meet face-to-face, preferably at your local police/sheriff's dep't :-)

Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace are guaranteed to bring out the scammers - but they also bring real buyers, too. You can tell the difference when you talk to them: buyers are interested in the RV and knowing about it. Scammers are interested in the payment arrangements.
  • even bank checks, bounce. My local bank would not give acces to funds till 5 days after deposit on another banks cashier check. Claimed too much fraud.
  • If it sounds like a funny deal, don't laugh ... if it sounds odd in any way, then laugh and don't do the deal.

Cash only or bank transfer for the bucks !! Don't sign or deliver until you have the $$$ in your fat little hands.
  • Avoid anyone who won't meet you in person, or gives you a long BS story. And avoid any Nigerian prince.
  • On Craigs List, do not reply to anyone on an offshore oil rig offering to buy "the unit" for their father sight unseen for full price and only dealing through PayPal.
