RV Mattress

Looking to buy a new Queen mattress for the motorhome. Any recommendations or mattresses that you would not buy?
  • Overstock dot com carries some queen mattresses for RV's. I bought one and it worked great on my 70 yr. old back
  • We have a couple local places that make the mattress on site. We had a queen mattress that we were not completely happy with in the house. We bought a new one for the house, and the mattress store cut down the old one for $100.
  • We wouldn't buy a mattress that has memory foam as a top layer but that is a personal preference. We did buy a Lucid latex 12" hybrid (steel springs and foam) mattress from Amazon. It was delivered rolled up in a box and was easy to drag through the trailer. Our 31 ft. fifth wheel has a full 60" x 80" queen. We have about fifteen nights on it and find we like it a lot.

Amazon seems to have mattress shopping dialed in a little. Most of the mattresses show a foam type profile and a firmness rating. There are also a number of good Youtube videos. I cross shopped at mattress stores and it became obvious to me their hybrid mattresses were made in the same factories as the online ones, except twice the cost.

    I heartily second this suggestion.
They have them in regular sizes and the RV/ Short Queen I needed in my TT.
My Short Queen was right at $200 shipped.

Another Zinus fan. Short queen for us as well, different thicknesses are available from, I think, 8 to 12 inches. Right around $200 or so.
  • I love my Sleep Number bed (same model as we have in our Sticks n Bricks.)

By the way a factory store can get you a RV or short Queen size, but they cost more than a std. I squeezed in my TT.
  • Yes, to answer your question, I would not buy a queen mattress from any mattress store or big box store because they will all be too long. Take up too much room in the bedroom of the typical RV. But if you're a rock star in a rock star's $2,000,000 bus, then I'd bet a standard queen would fit your bed. Most of us though have to get a shorter mattress to fit in the bedroom.

So it's either custom made, or purchase from a RV retailer, or check with Amazon online because they have many. I suspect that some high end 40' RVs have full sized queens now days too so if you have that, buy anywhere except at a RV dealership (save money).

If mattress stores now have a selection of RV length mattresses these days, then I'm wrong.

  • Measure and hit your local mattress stores. Try them all and pick the one that is most comfortable to you. I dont have to sleep on it so my choice may not be your choice. Several years ago when we bought a new mattress for home we also got the exact same one for our fiver. Best decision we ever made.
  • Not buy? Wouldn't buy used...but we just bought one from Verlo.com for our RV.
