Nothing like watching the sewer hose going gulp, gulp, gulp. Even w/o smell you KNOW what is going on and that is enough for some folks to get queasy.

I think "Old-Biscuit" nailed it on the head. Even if you had a beautiful new hose and it was sealed with aircraft fittings, it's still the idea that someone is doing it while you're eating. Smell, or not, your brain knows what is going on and will associate with what's in the hose and ruin your meal.
I think we've all been to campgrounds where every so often you get a wiff of sewer, sometimes caused by vent stacks or a drain cap left off.
