RV Printer

A laser printer, like a Brother will work perfectly, not too large, low priced, and good quality. Plus no ink to dry out. I've had a couple Brother laser printers and have been very happy with them.

The downside is a laser printer has a pretty big electrical draw when it first turns on to print. Something to consider if you're camping other than using shore power.

Years ago I bought a cheap,($49.) light HP. It lives in the RV.

I agree with this - the laser printers use dry toner - which lasts an incredibly-long time and can't dry out. It's what we put in our snowbird condo, after having to replace barely-used ink cartridges each season simply because they dried out.

I have one around here somewhere.. haven't used it in years.

We've been using a Brother laser printer for three years now. Our printer cost about $90, and does double sided printing. Got tired of the cartridges drying out on the bubble jet printers.

Years ago we bought a Canon IP100. Small light prints both b&w and color. Used it a lot when we were looking for a new house.

I too use a Canon IP100 for the RV. It is so portable, takes up little space.
One thing I really like is that it has a built in rechargeable battery. You can print stuff anywhere without having to plug it in to 110V power.
I also have a tiny scanner that's even smaller than the IP100. It runs on USB power from my laptop.

But the IP100 is still an inkjet. I agree with other posters about the laser printer.

I'll cast my vote for a small laser. Brother are good but kinda fiddly with separate consumable toner and drum pieces. Most HP use a combo toner and drum.

I have a Ricoh Sp-112 compact laser printer; probably the smallest laser printer ever made. Alas, they are no longer made and no manufacture has filled the void. The main reason is ink-jets have come down so much in price you can practically get one free. Couple that with the availability of compatible ink jet cartridges, you can buy a years supply of ink cartridges for the cost of a Happy Meal. Even our local pharmacy has compact inkjet printers next to the deodorant on aisle 4.

The key is getting one that doesn't require some proprietary inkjet cartridges with chips. Compare the purchase price and the price of a bundle of compatible inkjet cartridges and pick the one that meets your needs. There are just so many, at very low prices, it really comes down to what you like.

We use a Epson XP-310. Print, copy, scan and wireless. Buy 499ink at $4.99/cartridge. Made a slide out tray so it's out of sight when not used.
