RV Storage in Arizona

I would like to know about storing an RV in Arizona long term. Thinking of an outdoor storage yard from about May to November. Is leaving it in the open a bad idea through the summer or will it be OK in the summer sun. Indoor is much more money. Does anyone know a good storage place near Lake Havasu ?

  • Thanks for the advice. I had not thought about higher elevation areas and that makes a lot of sense. I will look into those areas. This is such a great site for help. Thanks again.
  • The sun and heat in the Colorado river area (Bullhead to Yuma) will ruin an RV. I don't park mine outside in the summer for more that a few days. Even inside storage can get very hot. There are storage facilities in Havasu around $200/mo, just call around. Like some others have said, go to the higher elevations (4000+).
  • I have TTs, 5th ws, Park Models, Houses in Yuma that set in the sun year around in Yuma. Very few problems with them falling apart due to the sun in 13 years. I also have renters leaving there RVs year around on my lots. Seems to me if there is a big problem that the renters would find somewhere else to park there RVs
  • Try storage in Kingman. It is close to Havasu, much cooler, and less expensive.

  • I think Lake Havasu and Yuma are the two hottest places in AZ in the summer. So I wouldn't choose those two towns. There's no question that the AZ summer heat will do damage as mentioned....fading of graphics, drying out of plastics, etc. In an RV I used to own, the little rubber bumpers on the inside of the cabinet doors melted and dripped onto whatever was beneath them. I would not leave any canned goods, or anything that could melt or explode in such extreme heat.

Perhaps look into Flagstaff, as it is at higher elevation and much cooler (as in less hot). Or there is a facility or two in Cottonwood, hotter than Flagstaff but better than Lake Havasu.
  • I live south of Tucson so not as hot as Yuma. No way can I afford the indoor storage. Maybe if I was in the income bracket to have a 100,000 + rig I could put out the dollars, so my lowly trailer and fifth wheel (still for sale) sits in the open. In a year and a half, so far, I see no ill effects. The main thing I do see is graphics fading and that kind of problem. All I know is that I see 1000's of rigs in the open so I can't believe they are all incurring huge amounts of damage. And all the rigs at dealers lots sit in the open...
  • A friend left His Motorhome in Yuma one Year!
They filled several Rubbermaid Totes with Water to provide some humidity, but still had dried out panelling and woodwork. Virtually everything made of plastic crumbled and fell apart. It cost Them several hundred dollars to replace and repair!
Store Your Rig indoors or take it Home with You.
  • Yuma....indoor storage, $275/mo...Premier Storage, 2 locations. Lots of folks leave their RV in the AZ desert summer sun....not me. Check RV parks for summer storage rates...they are mostly empty in the Yuma 110-120 degree summer months.

  • The summer sun and wind in AZ can be really hard on an RV. I would recommend a lot with covered storage, there seem to be a lot of them around the Tucson area, expect the same would apply farther north.
