RV Vacation Rental Trade for Transporting Used RV?

My goal is to get RV from UT to Texas. I thought I would try and take advantage of opportunity to allow someone looking to Rent an RV for vacation to use for free and take time getting it to tx. Anyone done this before?

I posted this in Craigslists, Is there other, places that encourages these types of posting that brings RV renters and People who need Used RV transported together. If there is not a site like this then I would love to set up one with another eager person who sees the need for this. Let me know.

In The mean time, I need to get my RV to tx and hoping you guys can offer help on how to promote my good idea.
  • There are companies that will furnish bonded drivers to transport any type of vehicle to a destination. Turning your rig over to unknown people in my estimation is far too risky. An RV is not a common vehicle, it needs some one who has some knowledge of many different systems, propane, proper electrical hook ups, on and on. Then as noted by o/p's the liability issue is immense. Check with a local RV dealer of some size, they usually know of individuals that will drive for so much a mile, but they are responsible.
  • There are companies out of Europe that do this. Most of the Cruise America and Camping World rentals are moved this way from the factory to delivery point. I have met a large number of Dutch and German couples doing this. Don't have a name for you but hopefully that helps point you in the right direction.
  • There are companies that transport RVs for a living. El Monte and Cruise America come to mind. Otherwise, everyone would have to buy their RV at the factory. They have the proper liability insurance and use drivers with a commercial license. And the drivers can't use any of the facilities while in transit. That's one of the reasons that you see those units parked in motel parking lots.
You're potential liability isn't worth it.
  • What type is it?:@

I'm looking for a Class A DP, triple slide, 2013 or newer, with multiple TV's and entertainment opportunities, to try out......

  • Why not drive it or tow it there and take a small vacation? seems a lot better than letting someone else use it!
  • I think CL is the best place to advertise.
Did you try contacting any dealers or RV clubs? Maybe they know of someone who would be interested in your offer.
Are there any military bases near you? Maybe someone is traveling to the area you're taking your RV.

I have never allowed anyone use my RV.
To me, it's a bad idea. JMO
Let us know how you make out with your plans.
  • In my opinion, you would incur great risk. There are all kinds of things that can damage your rig or anyone/anything else and your insurance will not be covering you, them (the "renters" or any other injured party) or it... if you get caught. LOTS of ways to go bad. I know that wasn't your question but the question you are asking implies you didn't consider the liability issues associated. If you did consider and have concluded that going ahead with the plan is a good thing to do, it's unlikely other owners will join you in the exposure.

I'm not aware of specific company names but I believe there are agencies to which you can "rent" your RV and they will, in turn, rent it to someone else and, at least, provide some of the insurance that you are lacking. But, if there is a lien holder on your RV, they will not be amused by even that plan.
  • see all the previous threads on "loaning out your RV". same worries would apply to your situation.
