Where is the elusive middle ground? Including the original poster!
An RV can be extremely useful for a "minor cataclysm"- Your house burns down, tornado (assuming the RV is stored elsewhere), ice storm power failure, flood...
Heck, Hurricane Katrina made for some interesting RV deals- a lot of homeowners made great use of RV's (not talking about the welfare villages as much as the homeowners who got to live on site and keep the city alive during the months of rebuilding).
I'd use the word handy, and I'd say "another fringe benefit" from an RV.
But as a PRIMARY reason to have an RV and as a genuine SURVIVAL POD from a BIG disaster...that's a big NO!
