I'm not sure what the question is? If the issue is resolved - it is resolved.
I'm curious as to why we had the problem in the first place. We've used the camper a bunch of times without issue and now this. Of course, it's not like we ever checked the chains under the a frame before so we have no idea what it looked like.
Also, do you think this is all that is needed? Should we look at a longer chain now being we took some slack out going from the truck to the TT.
First off, let me apologize for some of the blood in the water responses above. Seems some in this forum like to respond to innocent questions from people with ridicule instead of anything helpful.
I can't tell from the pictures but my best guess is the chains when hooked to the hitch might be a bit short. It's possible that this trip, you made some tighter turns that pulled the chains tighter than previous trips and maybe wedged the chains against the jack? Just a guess from the information you provided.
Check the length of the chains when the tow vehicle and trailer are straight and again when they are turned tightly, almost to contact (likely about 75-80 degree angle). Ideally the chains should be crossed under the tongue of the trailer and hang about 3"-4" above the ground when the truck/trailer are straight. this slack will disappear when the truck/trailer are turned at near maximum angle.
If after checking this, it appears that might have been what happened, you have two choices. Minimize the very sharp turns from now on or lengthen your chains slightly if they are not dragging the ground already.
Let us know what you find out.
