Safety chain U bolts necessary?

Im thinking of putting a B&W turnover ball hitch system in my truck and pair it with a Companion Slider. I have never nor intend to haul a gooseneck trailer.

So my question is, is it necessary to drill extra holes in my bed if I will not use them?

Do the safety chain u bolts have any other function other than for the chains?

May sound like a silly question but you never know if there is a secondary intention for bolts.

thanks

  • I don't see the need for the U-bolts, if you'll never use them. On a new truck, in your sig, I would rather install the underbed FW puck system. It would cost simlar as the TO ball, and then you could add the IMO, much better puck mounted hitch. I would not use a single point attachment on a newer truck.

  • I have the B&W turnover ball and Companion hitch, not the slider. It has never even occurred to me to install chains. I don't pull a gooseneck so why would I need chains. I would only drill holes in my bed if they were needed at the time, not possibly in the future.
