Safety

hubby is a 'gun person' being a hunter and all. yes we will carry a gun in the rv. we don't take it for any reason other than he is a gun person and it is his thing and he carries for his personal reasons. safety issue, sure if needed, but never anticipated it will ever be needed :) guns are part of some people's lives. it is their choice as long as safety issues/policies/law etc are followed. not a thing wrong with it.

I will second this post.. Far too many people are not preperly trained, and the result is a bad guy gets the gun and shoots the gun owner. Now not only do we have a dead good guy, but a gun "in the wild" in the hands of criminals.

I know police who are very highly trained.. I mean some of the best training in the business (Michigan State Troopers) who have had bad guys "Get the drop" on 'em.. One of them survived.. Just one.

I have a CCW and do have a gun in the MH. Never felt unsafe in a campground. I carry because you never know where a breakdown may occur. Could end up on the side of the road in an unfavorable part of town. For those that prefer to call 911, go ahead. Keep in mind that although it says "Protect and Serve" on many police cars, protecting you is not their job. Their job is to enforce the law, investigate crimes and arrest criminals.

Anymore, I simply respond with saying that I'm a longtime member of the NRA. And, that I sleep with my 9mm Glock compact under my pillow.
And, that I try to avoid confrontations.

CPL holder here. I camp a lot and am always carrying a concealed pistol.

Situations generally don't take minutes or hours to develop. In most cases the issue comes to a head in a matter of seconds be it a rabid animal on a trail, someone with ill intent appearing suddenly or a seemingly innocent comment being taken wrongly and tempers flaring. It is silly to assume that there will always be a means of egress from the situation. When one finds there isn't those who don't own a gun will think "I wish I had a gun" and those that own but don't carry will be thinking how stupid they are for having a gun and leaving it at home or in the truck.

Everyone has TV insurance, trailer insurance, a fire extinguisher, spare batteries for the flashlight etc. etc. etc.for use when something goes wrong. Those who eschew firearm ownership defy all the good logic of those insurances etc. they carry. I won't speculate as to the reasons behind that decision but will simply say that the decision is utterly illogical.

Personal choice, for sure. I've been in three situations that made me pack and leave, all involved firearms but not mine.

First, Mr. City Guy that thought it would be OK to shoot Yogi and Boo-Boo while they were meandering down the hill for their evening trash raid at Yosemite park. This idiot had a chrome plated revolver and was standing inside his RV with Wife and family inside.

Second, drunken reveler discharging into a campfire late at night with lots of young folks nearby.

Third, group of young, drunken city kids arriving at campsite at 3 AM and trying to count rounds of .357 (until they broke their third lantern). They all passed out before any firing but I pulled stakes early the next morning.

If I was camping off-grid in the Western States, I might have a weapon. If in a campground, probably not. My situational awareness is still pretty good.

I choose to carry most of the time. My choice. I don't show or advertise the fact that I am armed.
Please don't take this as sarcasm, but training is very important when choosing to carry. Also, the fact that in the case where you have to use the weapon, your life will be forever changed.
When I was a LEO, I shot thousands of rounds, but only had to "start" to draw once. Thankfully the bad person complied.
Think carefully about the commitment you make if you carry a weapon.

I have never used a spare tire on my trucks. I still carry one. I hope I never need it. :)

Interesting thought, I never thought about using a gun to extinguish a fire..
