I had forgotten to mention that when we had called and emailed on a question concerning another unit and whether the bathroom would be accessible with the slide in, we were told it would be tight but was accessible. I had also asked this of the manufacturer and the person I needed to talk to was in Europe and returned my call the next week saying that there would be NO way to access the bathroom with the slide closed.
Our choices are really limited. We aren't traveling to large cities on highways, but backroads some that flood and none that we are familiar with. We are in central Kansas.
While I realize that salespeople take time off, it has been our experience in the past that this was used as a "ploy" more often than not. I am being told here that the unit probably couldn't be ready in the time period that the salesperson said, this is what I am being told by you all, thus it makes it more suspicious.
While your experience may be that the service people do great work when making repairs to new rvs, that is not always the case. This particular manufacturer used to do a good job, but as with most, there could be some serious flaws.
Does anyone know, do the dealerships simply take these units as a "consignment" from the manufacturers? I'm thinking that in that case, those that do that would not put the effort/expense of checking anything out until the unit was sold. I know some charge for that inspection.
We had a good experience in discussing with another dealership and also when calling the manufacturer and this manufacturer, while not putting out perfect units (none do, not even the 5 star ones as I worked in the office for one years ago), shows a history of "making it right" unlike many who don't know who you are once they have cash in hand.
We have worked with large RV retailers in AZ to small mom and pop operations. I can tell you, paying a little more with the small mom and pop operations is well worth the cost.
As I have stated, we will shop elsewhere, smaller dealer.
***So, we would have to give the dealer the cash before the unit was checked out to make sure things were working, things weren't missing, etc. I understand exactly what is happening here.
I have seen some really sloppy work and the manufacturer has no interest or control over the quality of work, been there, done that and are all the wiser for it.
We were told that if we told them which unit we were interested in, they would get it ready yet when we mentioned fit and finish, that changed.
I still believe this was nothing more than the old "salesperson switcharoo"! This is also used frequently in auto sales, so beware.
With this I do close. Also, those insulting me for more likely than not knowing a scam when they wouldn't ....................
