Figure $50/week rental + a service plan (starting @ $55/month), so about $300/month.

Finally, since you have a few months before you go, you might want to rent a phone for a week & see how it goes.

Google isn't the best source for feedback from fellow RV travelers who have used the service.

Verizon has them for $69/wk and $1.79/min it looks like from this page:

It doesn't seem like a bad price to have for emergencies. No emergency, won't even cost you ;)

And since incoming calls are free, you can always call and ask them to call you back ;)

I don't know what the "Authorization" fee of $500 is, though?

In any case, that is one option, but I haven't used the rental places, so you'll have to be careful about the details. Good luck!

I'll have my family with me on this trip and not trying to sacrifice safety or convenience to save a few bucks on this one. Also, we go to lots of places where there is zero service even for Verizon such as BIG BEND and would like to have this info for future use as well.

If verizon does work in that area, maybe you could get a verizon pre-paid phone for a few months. It might work out cheaper for you. Just a thought.
