Satellite TV. Service

DirecTV uses spot beams, so if you travel a state or two away, you will loose locals. They will change service location twice a year without a Hastle. Dish will willing change more often.

It is against DirecTV's service agreement to have service at two locations on a single contract. But people do it. They do have contracts with distant network services for RV's that gives NY or LA locals anywhere you travel.

I have been on Direct TV since they first started (How many years is that now 15 ? ) The equipment for your home is so cheap why lease it? I don't know how much the equipment for a RV is but it can't be that much can it? If it is I would just buy a second set of home equipment , call them and tell them that I was adding a second receiver to my house, and then use it in the RV. ( I actually wouldn't have to buy equipment because I have a couple of sets of it left over from friends that bought it, then couldn't afford it, and then gave it to me. ) You do have to have a second card to put in the receiver but, they sell them to you for about 50 bucks. Or, am I missing something here??

When we first wanted a Tailgator. Tweetys had a great deal on a set up, receiver and all. The only problem was they wanted my SS# when filling out the online form. They insisted they had to have it so I closed the page and went on.

Earlier this year we decided to get one and found a refurb on ebay for a good deal. It was from Tweetys again but this time there were no forms, just pay for it. Dish never asked as I signed up for service.

With a tiny fraction of very carefully screened exceptions, if a business entity needs my SSN I don't need their services. Regrettably (but that's another story), we have had DISH X 3 over the past 15 years. Never have we provided a SSN, nor would we.

No, we have Directv at home and I got sick of moving the box back and forth and we can get locals with Dish.

I think the issue has now been resolved. The OP responded that they were inquiring to Dish for New home service & "leasing" equipment from Dish. Different circumstances entirely.

I agree, the policy of requesting your SS # prior to quoting a cost, is out of line in a certain respect but, I believe the best explanation is this.

They are " leasing" the equipment to you & in essence become a lender & can ask upfront for information to determine credit worthiness. The service itself is not at risk because it can be terminated at anytime remotely by Dish, the equipment on the other hand is what is at risk.

For my home, but I have taken a Direct TV home reciever with me in my RV, in the past with good results.

New service for your RV, as I assumed, or new service for Home ?

I called Dish directly regarding new service using their equiptment. My issue is that I can make online purchases for equiptment costing 5X what Dish values their equiptment at, with only my credit card. Why does Dish need my SS# ? To me, it is just another database to get hacked, that has my information. Sorry Dish!!! I went elsewhere.
