You do seam to think you know it all but you might want to do a little research for yourself to which you will find that most crooks are not deterred by the sound of a shotgun racking. If anything they get a little early warning as to what they are facing if they are so motivated to do anything it takes. Your best bet like posted above is to wait quietly with a high output flashlight in one hand and your choice of firearm in the other. Let the crook decide how far he wants to take it then take appropriate action. Unless you are in the great state of Utah which considers the act of trying to break into your residence a direct threat to your life.
