I was backpacking in the Weminuche Wilderness using a hammock and tarp rather than a tent and sleeping bag. An hour or two after dark, I heard something walking through the leaves and then I felt it arch its back under my hammock and the slap of its tail as it walked under me.
By the time I grabbed my pistol and flashlight and got the zipper open on the mosquito netting, it was gone. Never did see for sure, but I think it was a mountain lion. Felt just like a house cat rubbing its back up against me, but I was about 2+ feet off the ground.
