I have another that didn't directly impact me. This one is also in Maryland at Rocky Gap State Park. It was mid week in early June, so the campground was pretty quiet. I forget what loop we were in, but there were only 3 tent campers in our loop. About 5 sites down there were two campers across from each other. One was a group of 4 guys, the other was a family with one or two small children. I was there with some friends.
During our first night, we all woke up to screams, shouting and running through the woods throughout our loop. It didn't seem like it was right on top of us, but just a little ways in the distance. It went on for what seemed like hours, but I don't actually know how long it went on. None of us got up as a result of it though.
In the morning, we all talked about it. Two of us walked down to ask the other campers if they heard it to see if they had any ideas what was going on. As we were walking down, we saw 3 of the 4 guys get into their car. Two of them were carrying one of them into the car while the 4th guy stayed behind; it looked like he was starting to pack up.
We stopped and talk to the mother across from them. She said her and her husband were very scared all night. Her husband had gone to look for the Ranger because the Rangers did not respond to their repeated calls during the night. Apparently, 3 of the 4 guys were beating up the 4th guy. They were chasing him throughout the woods. The mother was telling us it went on for hours. She said they first called the Rangers at 3 am and then called a few times after that with no response. She told us that they just put the guy they were chasing into the car and it looked like he was past out and had been worked over pretty good. That's what we saw as we were walking down.
As we were leaving, we saw the husband return with a Ranger. Not long after that a State Trooper showed up with another Ranger. They arrested the guy who was packing up and when the other 2 returned, they were arrested as well.
