Meniscus tears can be a precursor to arthritis, but if you catch it early, it doesn't mean you will need a replacement for many years, if ever. But it is important to get it cleaned up. Most important part is having the leg in good shape (strength and range of motion) prior to surgery. You shouldn't need microfracture, unless you already have severe arthritis down to raw bone. Arthroscopy doesn't do much else to help arthritis, but definitely will take care of the meniscus symptoms. (I've seen hundreds of them, and the results.) Lots of luck.
