Sealing strip coming off RV

I've got this problem all over my RV here lately. The strips that run along the RV on the places where panels are screwed together are starting to fall off as we're driving down the freeway. See here:

I've been taping it in the meantime, but obviously looking for a permanent solution (i.e. glue). I'm not sure if I should super glue this as it would prevent removing of the strip in the future if we had to remove them. But not sure what other people in the community have done to fix this issue.

Thanks!
  • Well first, you can buy that stuff in lengths at any RV shop so if you do lose some, please replace it. It is supposed to keep water away from the screw holes underneath which of course never leak or rust.

I put sealant along the edges of mine from the plastic to the metal, seems to work just fine. I just use RV sealant as you would put on vertical seams.
  • Vinyl insert is coming off? The corners or where it goes over something was the weak point on ours. After glue and new insert, OK for couple years, then same old problem. After seeing what others did, I put little screws thru vinyl insert into its frame (to hold better). Not entirely happy, but problem solved. On straight runs no problems it stays in place, corners is where I had my problems. They come in different length rolls.

  • When that strip won't stay in, it is usually hardening and shrinkage from UV aging the plastics. You need to replace the strip. Just another of the periodic maintenance items on a RV.
  • 3 M 4200 is the best stickum you can use. well 5200 is better but you can't remove that.

  • I wouldn't glue it in...replace it with fresh vinyl insert..it comes in colors also. Removing it next time will be a mess and more difficult.

It is much easier to work with and install if you heat it up. I heated a large pot of water on the stove and then put the insert in the hot water....made it pliable and easy to guide into the channel.
