Security Advice from Quartzsite LEO

On another post I told of our generators being stolen LINK.

We're boondocking in Quartzsite on the BLM land. They're having a rash of thefts this year. Been coming for YEARS and not had this!

We suspect a cruddy looking Class C that ironically was gone when we got up this morning. I mentioned to the LEO that I wish I'd taken a picture of it. He suggested that it would be a good idea while boondocking to carefully take pictures of rigs anywhere near, with their license plate if possible, and of any rigs acting strange.

Thought I'd just pass the word!

Good luck everyone --- Still the best place to boondock in our opinion!

It's not hard to surreptitiously take a picture.

At the Q your neighbor may be hundreds of feet away and see or hear nothing. The best defense is to shutter away your gens at night - but that's a hassle and a half. But I guess it beats getting them stolen.

I hate that this happened to you, but the tinfoil hat wearer in me is kind of creeped out by the idea of everyone I camp near taking a picture of my lincense plate.

I haven't been to Q, but my experience in other ad hoc / no authority communities is that they are wonderful -- until one or a few bad people show up. And then there is not much suport for the people they target. Not as much as I personally think there ought to be, I mean.

I guess what I am saying is that I would like people to be more helpful in your specific case, and to focus on forms of prevention that are more community-oriented and less alienating. Maybe people could just watch eavh other's sites more?
  • ..and it's still very early in the season. They wouldn't be silly enough to try to pawn it in Quartzsite.. would they?

Mine are getting put away out of sight starting tonight.
