Seeing a ton of RV's for sale...

Diesel as well....lol Around here Diesel is over 3 bucks a gallon and I'm suspecting it to be close to 4 bucks soon as well as regular unleaded close to 4 bucks. That alone will put a severe crimp on the RV kingdom, cause a marked sales drop and put many gas/diesel guzzling RV's in front yards with 'for sale' signs on them.

Probably be some nice units and a bunch of bad ones as well.

Gas and diesel prices will be back down soon. Some refineries around Houston are getting hot and cranking up. The one I worked in for 35 years got flooded bad and I haven't heard when they are coming up. Getting the pipelines back in service is vital. Give it 3-6 weeks.
And....we are drowning in oil. I doubt it gets over $60 for a very long time. A war in the Mid East is about the only way.

Wife and I just went to the store in the next town and beside the road (US223) there were no less than 5 late model RV's 2 pull behind, 1 fifth wheel and 2 on late model van chassis, all for sale in one spot. Was like an RV showroom on the side of the road....lol

Across the road, there was a lone TC that has been there all summer. Not much of a market around here for TC's.

Last night I was just browsing the Camping world inventory of bunkhouse trailers, just the tagalongs. Man, I wish a few of those were available when I was searching, found a couple that would have worked out perfect for us to grow with. Hopefully we can get a few more years out of the current one before the kids outgrow it. There were a lot of them, new and used.

I found it to be much cheaper to RV than to get motel/hotels, and dine out. Even staying at private campsites instead of state campgrounds works out to save us a lot. If we went the hotel/motel, we would need 2 rooms since there are 5 of us, one being my mother, and with two pre-teen kids, needs to be a suite so they have separate beds, or WAR starts. Heck, we even eat better when camping since we all eat together(and I do the cooking).

Our problem is finding the time! Since this is our second year doing it, still on the learning curve, so haven't gone off the grid yet, but some day.

Just like most boats, cars , etc. values don't hold. There are more pull behinds than motorhomes for sale as I see it. Until my wife retires, we can't just go unless planned ahead, so short trips it is. We love the lifestyle and some find that they don't, so they sell and cut their loss. Live and learn. So, we take the tax deduction on the loan and go places whenever possible. For us, the trip is as fun as the destination. Gotta know what your getting into.

One thing about being married for 33 years, I can leer at the young gals and my wife ignores it. Any gal under 50 I consider leerable....lol

The couple down the road from me bought a new Forrest River TT (not sure of thr size but it's a tandem axle bumper pull unit) this spring, used it maybe 2 times and now has a 'for sale' sign on it in their front yard. Maybe in their late 40's and he's an autoworker so money shouldn't be an issue.

Guess they thought camping would be something interesting, guess it's not.

I keep mine (units) at least 10 years because I set them up to my liking inside and once I get them 'comfortable', no point in doing another one. Like my tow vehicle, in 7 more years I can plate it as a 'historical vehicle'.

We always see RVs, boats, cars, horse trailers etc with 'for sale signs' in someone's yard all the time everywhere.

Most of what I have stopped to look at has been junk that someone is trying to unload on the unsuspecting. They don't really want to sell it unless they can get a good price for a bad unit. I am one who puts on new tires, brakes, and paint before giving it to the first person with a fifty dollar bill in their hand.

Maybe that is why I am not rich?

I've always wondered if that mindset was a product of the depression. Nowadays, there are fewer who lived through the 30's and our economy has bounced up and down but never down to that extent. So folks nowadays don't see the "danger" in buying expensive to operate toys - "in a few years gas will drop again". I guess we really live in a different world than our grandparents did.

Absolutely right. We have the benefit of experience with the economy that appears to proof those trends. Guessing that almost 100 years ago, there weren't the economic swings with the frequency as now. Everything jsit happens faster. But 07-08 hit hard. I was able to get great deals on gas guzzling luxuries......
