In my travels I'm seeing a bunch of later model RV's of every description for sale in peoples yards, driveways, sitting in empty lots, on Craigs List and in the local paper.I wonder what gives.I wonder if people buy an RV and then get a taste of 'camping' and decide that a motel or staying home is better or if the get in over their heads financially and need to get out.Kind of amazed at how many I see in my travels with mine.Any opinions?

It's a lot more work than most people expect.

You always see more at the end of camping season and winter months for sale. I kind of agree with you that some folks try camping out and find that its not for them. Also now a days it is a little expensive to camp for some folks. Food, fuel and site prices. I'm lucky. My wife and I are fortunate that we own our camper out right and don't have any monthly payments.

What kind of amazes me is, I'm not seeing many (actually very few) older units for sale. It's all late model RV's, which are pretty easy to recognize (Filon and graphics) versus the older stuff (aluminum sided with paint stripes)....One thing I don't see is too many motorhomes, in fact I saw maybe one for sale.All non motorized stuff.Also wonder if this is a trending thing with the staggering amount of new RV's sold, if the used, late model units will be basically 'worthless', like the used car market is getting...again.Maybe we need a 'cash for RV's' like the 'Cash for Clunkers' program was....

I think a lot of people realize at the end of the summer how little they have used the RV, and don't want to store it all winter.

Happily (and very selfishly), I was able to take advantage of this. I picked up my 2016 Grand Design Reflections 313RLTS loaded for only $29k.

Another 20 years for you will not make you a dirty old man. Maybe a little 'crusty'.

I'll bet that Palomino TC of yours will still look like brand new! By then you will have to change out those two LPG bottles for a couple new LPG tanks.

I think some older folks purchase an RV well above their means, figuring that they probably won't live long enough to continue the payments. Then they wind up living longer than expected and need to "dump" the RV.

We did exactly the same thing, traveled 1,000's and 1,000's of miles when diesel was $4.50+ per gallon. I never paid over $5.00 per gallon, I did pay $4.99 as we came out of Canada in Michigan. Fuel in Canada was $5.25 per gallon at that time.

Do we like paying those prices? Absolutely not but we all know fuel is the cheapest thing about a RV even at $5.00 per gallon!

Show you how smart I am. I traveled more back in 2008 when gasoline topped $4.00/gallon. Just had to go to Alberta, Canada that year. Come to think of it, it was $5.00/gallon in Canada that summer.

Gasoline in way South Texas is hovering around $2.15/gallon. So far.
