I retired after 30 years from an helicopter company at age 58. From my experience the biggest cost was healthcare insurance until you turn 65. It took a lot less money than I thought to live and travel. If you can survive to age 62 financially , when SS kicks in the rest will be easy. If you paid the max while you worked this will be about $20-24k a year raise. Turning 65 was another raise of about $16k/year in the difference of healthcare insurance. At age 70 or so you have to start drawing from your 401 k anyways. Maybe some other folks can comment on 70 and beyond, I don't have any experience there yet. The other factor to consider is your over all health and how much longer you will be able to enjoy RV related activities like hiking, biking, walking to sight see etc. If you look at the actuarial tables you will find that the younger that you retire the longer you live if you had a white collar or Mgt type job. For my company if you retired at age 65 the company paid on average 18 mos retirement checks before you died, at 55 the paid out was 20 years VS 1.5 years at 65. I figured that if I outlived lived my money that would be a "high class" problem to have.
