There was actually a scientific study done on that precise phenomenon. It turns out that when you enter a familiar room, your mind resets to what it expects in that room. If your purpose for entering the room isn't related to the reset, you loose the thought. For example, when you enter the kitchen your mind resets to thoughts of food. If you went in there to get your car keys, the thought is lost because it has nothing to do with food.
Good deal! All of a sudden I feel 20 yrs younger. :C
