Sewer Donut

If a CG says a sewer donut is required, what do theY mean? Amazon has a "sewer seal" which was what I thought they meant but went to RV Supply store today & they didn't have one. They only had a sewer elbow connection. Will this wok for what CG requires? We don't usually use full hookups this my lack of knowledge! TIA
  • Buy the size you need before you go. Invariably the store at the campground does not have the right size in stock. We've got two or three from a long time, that are all wrong sized, in the bay.
  • I agree about the elbow. My hose has an elbow with three different size diameter threads on it. I have found that it will almost always securely fit sewer dump pipes even if those dump pipes are not threaded. I do have a donut for the odd case.

Campgrounds just don't want people dropping a hose into the dump pipe without some seal to hold in the odors.
  • The uses for the donut were very well covered.

An elbow can be used without the donut - and frequently it is.

Some folks will put a weight of some kind on top of the elbow to make sure it stays where it belongs.

Some *campgrounds* are requiring a *threaded* elbow - although most do not. - (Never saw an employee checking sewer connections, LOL!

Even if you only boondock, you will usually need/want an elbow at the dump station - not really necessary.....but "handy".

BTW - a "Y" connection is to connect *two* 3" sewer lines into *one*.
Some folks with two (remote from each other) separate tanks (usually with rear kitchens, or 2 bathrooms) will want to do that - but even then, a 3" 'Y' is not necessary.

    Happy dumping..;)

  • If you have an elbow connection that is threaded and can be screwed into the dump line at the CG site, you are alright. However, most hoses supplied by the dealer only have the connection on the RV side to attach to the RV and an unfinished end that just drops into the sewer pipe. If you do not have the elbow you need a donut for the unfinished end. CG is just looking for a seal that will keep other campers happy by reducing the sewer smells. This also only applies to "full hook-ups" and not the main RV dump on the way out. If you need a donut, this is it:

  • It's a foam rubber seal. Looks like this.

Most all camping stores will have it. Some Walmarts have RV supplies.

It has been my experience, that if a CG requires it, they have them for sale.
