Sewer Hookup @ Home?

I am parking right next to my garage, so power and water are easy. I am going to add 30AMP service myself, and water is already there.

Has anybody ever added a sewer hookup at their house? How easy is it, can I just route to the cleanout or tap anywhere into the sewer line? I don't want to use the flexible hose - I want to connect a real pipe to the motorhome and just pull the levers when it gets to 2/3 full.

Any thoughts or insight on the sewer would be appreciated.
  • My house is on pilings. There is a code required clean out where the pipe goes into the ground. I just unscrew the clean out and screw in my drain adapter. I don't do permanent. Neighbors or Town would have something to say.

If you are on municipal sewers, the "impact" of a 50-gallon flush will be negligible. Not so on an individual septic system. A septic system will take the flows from a macerator, as its really no more than the input flow from a washing machine...

    Thank you.

There are two general ways to do this:

    1: Have a plumber

add a "clean-out" near your rig. Semantics are critical here... you don't want to use the words, "dump station", since you might run afoul of a lot of regulations.

However, a clean-out where your dump hose adapter screws onto is perfectly OK.

2: Use a macerator pump. Done right, it isn't that much of a hassle, it allows you to pump uphill.

    X2
I've yet to hear of any place that will 'allow' you to hook up a MH to the existing sewer lines. SOOOOO be wary of what you say to a plumber if you go the route of one putting in a 'clean out' for you. Do not tell them of your intentions for the clean out. Many a license plumbers will NOT do what is against code.

And sadly your worst enemy doing this is going to be your neighbors. If you have the choice place your MH out of the line of sight of any of the neighbors. Because once they see a sewer line coming out of it trust me one of them will call you in.

Adding a clean out especially with plastic pipe is very easy.

Here in Canada a so-called "sewer clean-out" located somewhere on one's property is unusual, particularly in newer subdivisions, and I certainly don't have one. Even if I did I wouldn't choose to passively dump the contents of the trailer's black water tank, instead invested in a FloJet Waste Macerator Pump and installed a T to the main sewer stack in the house. I've been using this system for 10 yrs now and it's faultless, also use the macerator when camping ... a series of 7 pics starts here for anyone interested.

A home septic system might not appreciate a 50-gallon flush...

First of all, it depends on the size of his tank as to whether it would be 50 gallons. With that said, that makes no sense. Home bath tubs range in sizes of 40-120 gallons. Long showers could generate that amount or more. A properly working septic system should be able to handle it.

And I've asked a septic company about using our cleanout to dump and he said it would be fine for a single RV use, just not an multiple rv use daily.

  • easy to do really just need the right slope for drainage. the clean out can be added and then cut it down so you can use it
