I use option 1 and have found it to work great. The last park I camped at if I had to lay the hose on the ground it would have been a slight uphill to the drain. with the sidewinder I could set up a nice gentle downhill slope from the valve.
FWIW, the massive 5er (with probably tons of storage) next to me used PVC rain gutters and plastic leveling blocks to get the right pitch to the drain. It certainly worked, but it's no cheaper to buy all that stuff and it certainly does NOT take up the minimal space the Sidewinder does.
