I've only towed in a handful of states but what he is talking about sums up my 20 years of experience traveling Texas. It can be nerve racking dealing with the wind gusts and semis when traveling east and west. There are no wind breaks...except for the passing trucks. And I've bucked it for as long a 5 hours at a time. Not fun. When the winds get up, I try to avoid interstate. And the wind is almost always seems to be gusting out of the south. I detour through highways 29 and 190 as much as possible. Much more pleasant drive. My $.02.
Leg A was mostly heading south or southwest (into a stiff S wind). Leg B which was the worst was eastbound on I-10 from San Antonio to Houston with and winds out of the west and then shifted to out of the south halfway to Houston (and seemed to exacerbate the problem). Leg C I was heading north or northwest and the winds were not as pronounced.
You might consider highway 71, if you get that way again. Those 3 highways parallel the interstate and they are all good roads. I stay off I10 now, but the speed limit is 80mph on my side of the state. I'm just not comfortable on it.
