MiniTT,
I'm a bit confused, as your profile already shows that you have a small Class C!
The DW and myself have both been retired for quite some time and bought a new 24 foot Class C about two years into our retirement (seven years ago). We wanted "all the comforts of home", but in as small a unit as possible. We find that we use it a lot because it's easy to drive and there are no un-hook/hook-up hassles.
Here's some of what I consider are the advantages of a small Class C motorhome over a towed RV and a large RV of any type:
- Easier to maneuver along curbs, in shopping malls, and in gas stations, versus a large motorhome or any towed RV.
- The coach is always at cab temperature for quick and comfortable pull-offs to eat lunch, take a nap, or go to the bathroom ... versus a towed RV.
- Someone can sleep in the back ... if tired or ill ... while someone else drives ... versus a towed RV.
- The coach air conditioning is very convenient to use if you pick a Class C with a built-in generator powered right from the main engine's fuel tank ... versus a towed RV.
- The microwave oven is very convenient to use because of the built-in generator ... versus a towed RV.
- Class C fresh, grey, black, and propane tanks are usually larger than the tanks on small or average size towed RVs.
- Usually (but,of course, not always) the insulation is better in Class C motorhomes over small towed RVs, so cold weather and hot weather comfort is improved.
- Our small Class C has two queen beds, with one of them always set up and available.
- We can get our small Class C into many small campsites where it would be a bit of a hassle, or nearly impossible, to get a towed RV into.
- Our small Class C is very comfortable. It has distributed outlet heating, distributed outlet air conditioning, digital temperature control, outside shower for the dog, gobs of storage for even fishing poles, large battery capacity for minimum charging when camping without hookups, large main fuel tank capacity for long drives between gas-ups, full stand-up shower, large refrigerator, full oven, full microwave, double sinks in the kitchen, a positive air pressure system to keep the dust out, etc..
- We even take our small Class C offroad ... just like can be done with a small towed RV.
We have used a small towed RV ... but it was when we were "young" and were able and willing to put up with the discomforts because we had no choice at that point in our lives. For what it's worth I still backpack in the wilderness in order to have the very special experiences that go along with it ... but when doing this type of camping now I usually wish I had our Class C along to spend the nights in!!!
