Should We?

We are occasional campers. We've had a 35 foot 5th wheel which was just too large for the two of us. Especially when it came time to back that thing up our drive and to the side of the house :E ... so, we sold it and bought a 21 foot Mini Lite travel trailer ... and can put it anywhere ... we've had it just over a year and now hubby wants a 24 foot class C .. WHY???? We have found one that we both like, he more than me...but i am soooo struggling with giving up that amount of money. He is retired, he says im not old enough yet. boy do I feel it right now .. So, im so torn as to what to do. He is all LETS BUY IT ... and I'm the downer, don't want to mess up AGAIN. :?

  • Your hubby seems to suffer from what mine does-GBES-which is GETS BORED EASILY SYNDROME. We don't make large purchases unless we both agree upon it. You said WHY???? in your post. Why don't you ask him?
  • We looked at a class C and found it was too cramped compared to a 5th wheel. Plus most class c's we looked at were based on a van chassis. This set up does not give us the legroom we both need with the engine cowling taking up a lot of space could have been used for legroom. When we saw our first toyhauler, we were unconvinced. Then we saw one with the electric bunk beds that would be just perfect for grandkids. We were sold. 5er toyhauler whose rear ramp concerts to a deck and electric bunks fit us just perfect. Wife gets room for all the grandkids that want to tag along and I get storage for my Harley and golf cart. Life is good. Look at all your options and device together.
  • I think he needs to be reminded that if you are not happy, he definitely won't be. I wouldn't even consider a different RV if my DW was not in total agreement.
  • Why is he wanting a Class C? My husband occasionally mentions wanting a Class C. I think he thinks it will be easier. That setup is easier, that somehow, not having the truck will mean we carry less stuff, and we can just up and go. I don't agree with him.

So, maybe figure out why your hubby wants a MH, and then work from those reasons.
  • My ONLY big thing about a class C is this.

Once parked at your site and hooked up, you have to unhook to take the vehicle to see the sights. or drive to the grocery. If not, then you have to pull a tow vehicle to get around without unhooking.

for me this is big only because when parked, no way we want to unhook, put away things inside so they don't move/shift, etc. I like a separate vehicle for touring.

    just things to consider :)
  • As other have said...it's something between you and hubby. Have you discussed the pros and cons of a class C? Are you going to go out only with the class C or are you going to have to deal with towing a car for getting around? Is storage a problem? Will it be a 2nd or 3rd motor vehicle to register and insure?

I know I can be a little quick to "pull the plug" when I get interested in buying something new and the best thing my DW can do is just generate some good conversation without being excited or emotional (you know males can't handle that!). And, it's got a lot to do about how you and DH have handled finances in the past. If you have genuine reason for concern, than say so, but leave options opens such as let's hold off a year and then see if we have more $ to put down, etc.

    I hope everything goes well!
  • We went from a 21' TT to a 25' TT. Wrecked the whole works first time out. Neither of us wanted another TT so we bought our Class C. It works for us.

As loulou57 said, in slightly different words, its a personal choice that only you can decide.
  • How about renting a Class C? Then both of you can make an informed decision, or at least have a better understanding of traveling in and setting up a Class C.
  • yea this is between you and hubby and your checkbook :)

We just traded for a toyhauler. Hubby wanted it. I could have easily stayed with our 5'ver.

We are financially ok to do it so I thought, why not? he works hard and wanted something so I finally gave in and let the deal happen.

it is all about the finances most times. I don't like to be controlling on what he can and can't buy, but obviously at some point it is about how expensive is this thing he wants.

Since we could do it and me thinking about it for a while, he ran with it and got what he wanted. eh, life is short. spend a bit of cash and live good! We could so we did. But everyone has to handle this their own way and what is right for their situation.
  • Sure ask us to get in the middle of a domestic....LOL!

This is something only you and hubby can sort out. After us being tent campers only for ages, ( we did the RV thing before). One day not long after we bought the new Avalanche hubby said we are buying an RV. I almost fell over. Since he was off work we spent three weeks looking at every RV dealership in SW Ontario LOL . We left the house every morning at 8 and got home about 8 at night. Did we buy on impulse, maybe. We couldn't decide if we wanted a class b, a larger MH, tent trailer, 5 wheel or TT. Budget was all over. I just sat back and let him decide.

Whatever you decide, take your time and be sure. You can loose a lot of money trading your RV too soon.

Good luck! Let us know what you decide.
