Sirius/XM

I don't believe it's available anymore, but we paid $150 for a lifetime subscription. That was 15 years ago. We use the service regularly, in house and in the truck. One of the best bucks and a half we've ever spent.

I bought a lifetime subscription back in 2004. That allowed transferring the radio 3 times. Have only done it once so far.

We do have two other vehicles with Sirius. I have all the same channels I have in the lifetime radio, and I pay $25 for 5 months per radio. The first time I got that plan, it was a promotion. But they have allowed me to renew it several times. The first time I had to ask a couple times for it and threaten to cancel. The last time I just had to ask once.

There are likely better deals out there, but I am good with this one.

And I think anyone that pays a "activation" or "renewal" fee is crazy. They are desperate for subscriptions.

Yesterday I renewed for 12 months for $88. Sent them a check...do NOT give them a credit card or they will renew you on your card at THEIR price.

it is available but way more expensive. We have two lifetime subscriptions and they just sit there and run. Even in LA, Sirus is all I listen to anymore because of the severe AM static in this microprocessor world, and my commute is multi-pathed through mountains and not fun to listen to.

I re subscribed this year and doubt I will next year. DW has complained a lot mainly of the annual price, but I tell her I spend less for a years worth of music than she spends on a one day shopping spree. of course that went over real big. I need to learn to shut my wife and only learn to mutter yes dear.

It's indispensable to us and I wouldn't want to be without it. We have one vehicle, our Ford Flex which is pretty much our everyday driver, with a built in Sirius radio and a ultra-premium sound system.

Our other Sirius radio is a Sirius Sportster 5 receiver which can be used on our Sirius Boombox or in either the motor home or Expedition with SiriusXM PowerConnect Vehicle Kits that are installed in both vehicles. I also have a SiriusXM Dock and Play Home Kit which allows me to connect the Sirius receiver to the sound system in my music studio. The Sirius Boombox is used to play quiet music at our astronomy club's star parties (usually Sirius Spa - 68) and also in our bedroom to mask the sound of my wife's BiPAP machine so I can sleep.

Our service on both receivers is Sirius Select and The Best of XM, I think currently 160 channels. The ANNUAL bill on one (paid in two installments) is $159.00. The annual bill on the second, and because we have two subscriptions, is $109.00 (also paid in two installments). It's such a valuable service to us, and well worth what we pay for it, that I don't mess with playing the, "I'm not gonna renew..." game and just let it renew automatically every year. Stories that they will renew without notification are just that...stories. I always get advance notification of pending renewals via email, postal mail (with the newest channel lineup list), and via messages on my Sirius receivers.

I had XM (free) when I bought my latest pickup. Nice product. But the annual fee was kind of expensive, so when I called to sign up, I got down to 1/2 price.
But BEWARE....you are automatically renewed via your charge card UNLESS you call and opt out.

I thought $174/year was way to expensive, altho I did like the product. In light of all the free stuff on the air, and my music CDs, I cancelled.

They most certainly will automatically renew. Yes, you get a renewal notice (e mail if they have it), but if you look at the contract, you have agreed to automatically renew. You have to specifically opt out and they will remove your cc info from their computer.

Don't worry about playing the game. Usually you don't even have to. I received a renewal notice, but it didn't say which vehicle it was for. I called just to find out, and they asked if I called to cancel because the price was too high. They offered a reduced price without me even mentioning it.

You would think they would just offer the service at a reasonable price, but I guess as long as folks are willing to pay full price, they're willin to charge it.

that is what I switched to myself. got tired of every year having to fight to get a decent price, etc. have a couple of pay extra channels at $0.25 a month. and I can move my XM tuner thingy into house or other vehicles. use the AUX input on the radio. not all receivers can use ala carte however.
when I had the full set of channels during the Paying part of the renewal spiel, I emphasized that they could make a ONE time charge on my account, not automatic.

I use a portable unit like ........this. When traveling it's mighty nice/safer to turn it on in the morning and off at night. When not RVing it goes in the DW's car that does not have a Sirius radio.
