Sirius/XM

My free six month trial period with Sirius on the new truck ended last month. Not a huge deal. This truck gets driven far less than my work truck. But this year we plan to do some serious camping trips with our new toy hauler.

Sirius/XM is not a must for us. Most of the songs are boring but when you have that many stations, you can usually find something you like by channel surfing. Once in a blue moon, Laugh USA will even have someone really funny on there. For long trips, its also nice not having to hunt for new stations every hour or so.

I am surprised I haven't heard from Sirius yet about signing up. I probably would if the price was really cheap. I don't mean to sound cheap but when a particular vehicle is known to sit parked for over a week, it doesn't make sense to spend much money on something I may only use a time or two each month.

What's everyone else paying for Sirius if you don't mind my asking?

When Sirius first came out, my DW bought a lifetime membership with a boombox for $500 that has a portable receiver that will work through the a cars radio and thus is portable. Love it. It's similar to this: http://shop.siriusxm.com/xm/ctl10600/cp49759/si6573524/cl1/xm_onyx_ez_with_vehicle_kit__portable_speaker_dock_sd2?utm_campaign=SEM_GOOGLE_SHOP&utm_source=SEM_GOOGLE_PLA

if your radio is modern it will have an Aux input so you can play it thru the vehicle speakers.

  • I have 3 vehicles that have either Sirius or XM. What I do to save a little money is pay for one vehicle plus internet streaming. We use the app on our phones to bluetooth the audio through the stereo in the other 2 vehicles. It works fine as long as you have cell service and a data plan to cover it. The data useage is no more than Pandora. I use it because I can't get sports or news on Pandora.

If I recall correctly, there are some stations you can only get using internet streaming, so it may be worth your while if you like specialized stuff.
  • When Sirius and XM first merged in 2007, they offered a lifetime subscription on the combination unit and I bought it. I have "holsters" for the unit in my daily driver, MH, Jeep toad and a boom box so I can move the unit between them. I haven't listened to over the air radio since then. No more mouthy DJs.

Yeah it is/ was.. Makes no difference what device it's assigned to. I did the RV in 2006 and the car in 2013. Both are transferable.

    From Sirius/XM;

    Is my Lifetime subscription transferable?

If you purchased your Lifetime subscription

Before June 20, 2005: Yes, it is transferable from one radio to another any number of times.*
From June 20, 2005 until September 7, 2007: Yes, your Lifetime subscription is transferable a maximum of three times.*
On or after September 8, 2007: Lifetime subscriptions associated with home, portable or dock & play radios can be transferred a maximum of three times.* Lifetime subscriptions first associated with or transferred to radios installed in vehicles by automakers or dealers are NOT transferable unless the radio is stolen, accidentally damaged or defective.

Once a lifetime subscription associated with a home, portable, or dock & play radio is transferred to a radio installed by an automaker or dealer, the subscription becomes non-transferable. Otherwise, Lifetime subscriptions associated with a home, portable or dock & play radio can be transferred a maximum of three times, for a fee.*

Sirius/XM is the best thing since the wheel. I'm a truck driver of 25 years, I think a subscription should be issued at birth.

EDIT: Personally, the folks here saying the stations on Sirius/XM aren't that good are clueless. You have every music genre, every major news hub, all sports..NFL NBA MLB Nascar NHL. Jeez, then you have talk radio, trucking road dog,Oprah,....What else could there be??

Here, here. There it is there. With the exception of some of the talk and sports channels, most of them are commercial free as well. I don't think we've listened to over the air radio since we first got Sirius in 2009. There's 70's on 7, 80's on 8, Classic Vinyl, a dozen other rock genres and half a dozen jazz genres. I also like being able to the access the Traffic and Weather channels in select metro areas when we're traveling as well.
  • I like it due to the fact I can listen to my favorite football, baseball and Hockey team any were I go.
