sites/forums to find a mechanic when out of town ?

I'm not a fan of RVservicereviews.com. It is incomplete and out of date for the most part. I have found the best source for help while on the road is to ask workcampers and campground owners. Never have been led astray on coach or chassis work.

Yes...have used Angies List for that purpose.

I usually ask at the cg office if they know of a good mobile rv mechanic. So far have had good luck with their referrals.

I have found yelp.com very useful for finding mechanics, AC technicians, and RV service centers, in addition to restaurants. I was recently at a Norcold Service Center and the 5 yelp reviews were dead on. I also had a problem with a local plumbing company at my house and later I read the Yelp reviews and realized that they had a terrible reputation that was well deserved. Now I check it in advance.

If you use Google Maps and have it set for your location you can do a search nearby for a type of business and the ones retrieved will often have reviews indicated that you can check.

We've learned of a new website and service coming out this Summer that focuses on repair and service vendors specific to the RV industry. They will also have over 20,000 campgrounds, trip routing services and other features of interest to RV owners. They are not planning to charge RV users. Hope it's as good as it is sounding. I'll post all of the info when I find out they are live.

On several occasions I have called my road side service and told them I do not need to be towed but if I did where would they tow me to. Have had great success when I did this.

I will second the ask a campground owner, or even someone at a service/gas station. They are locals and know people. I was able to help a guy get a tire for his Prevost. I happen to know the only place in town that had a chance of finding him one. If he would have asked anyone in the area likely he would have gotten the same answer. Ask the locals we know people. I will nearly always stop and offer help to an RVer that has issues. Most of the time they have already called ERS, or have a plan already worked out, but sometimes help is needed.

I look out for the RV on the road, I hope that if I need help someday a fellow RVer will stop and render assistance if I am in your neck of the woods.
