I agree with you based on how you will camp solar is not cost effective. I have a 21 year old generator with about 300 hrs and dry camp 95% of the time for long weekends or week long trips no solar or generator is required. I have to look for ways to use it, most of the hrs are from exercising it. Water has always been the limiting factor for me I run out of fresh water in a week so I need to dump and fill, wash clothes and bedding so I look for CG with laundry and electric to recharge my batteries if I am on a long trip for a month or more. With your new GC 230 amp batteries I would not even buy a genset but if your friend is going to give you one it is always good to have.Lwiddis wrote:

Skelshy, RVing isn't cost effective. Buying a generator isn't cost effective. I believed OP (you) wanted to power his residential fridge and solar is one way to do it without any effort on most days. If you want to sit around your campsite 2, 3 or 4 hours a day running your generator, fine. I'll be the RVer at the end of the campground making no noise and not polluting the air when there is another way.
Solar is totally cool I get it. But I don't think it's a good investment where I really only need extra juice on stays longer than a weekend. For us that's 2-3 times a year. On normal weekends we make it on batteries just fine.
