Sleeping Overnight at Flying J's

We are getting ready to make our way from MO to Fort Jackson, SC. Going to stop one night at an RV park but planning on two other nights at Flying J’s just to sleep.
I want to run my generator while we sleep. So I bought an additional CO monitor and Gen-turi exhaust system. I know to leave a window or vent open to supply fresh air.
I know truckers run their engines while they sleep so why can’t we?
So any tips?
  • You will be fine. I have run mine at the truck places and also bought another detector and have not had any problems
  • Try a Lowe's, Home Depot or Cabela's instead. They'll be much cleaner and quieter than a truck stop.
  • Go ahead and run your generator and perhaps a loud fan to help drown out the sounds the truckers make as they come and go. I often run my generator overnighting in busy areas, not so much for the power, but for the noise.

In the winter, I'll run a small space heater (600w) as gasoline is cheaper and easier to get than propane. In the summer, I'll run the rooftop fan only, my generator will not run the compressor unless I use two generator.
  • The furnace runs off of propane and the house batteries. Set the thermostat, forget about it and go to bed. If the back of the MH is cold, start the furnace before you get there.

  • Yes you can run it but why would you want to since you shouldn't need the A/C?
