Slide gasket lube / release agent

There is no way for me to avoid that my slides are closed 5 months at a stretch. We leave our RV 1000 miles from our location so there is no going in and out. We also have the slides open for 7 months.

I am looking for the Best In Practice way to lube the rubber gaskets for preservation and to release from the inside face of the slides.

There are # of slide gasket lubes but 3 years has been the maximum life of my rubber gaskets even though I use them regularly.

What do you think of spray silicone?

  • Talcum powder is recommended in my owners manual. If you can't find talcum use baby powder which is the same thing except it has scent added.
  • Thank you so much. It is the time of the summer when I start thinking about going south for the winter and I start thinking RV.

Same here......plus it makes them smell like a baby's butt :B
  • I have heard from a number of folks that use the baby powder. There is a special foam-like spray that looks just like meringue on a pie when sprayed onto the seal. Any rv service center should have it.

  • I have always used Aerospace 303 and never had a problem, but I have a buddy with a fancy Newmar that swears that wiping them with baby powder is the best way to keep them from sticking. I may try that next time ....
