- winnietreyExplorerI try and pull over as soon as humanly possible to let someone pass. I don't like following a slow moving RV in my car. So pretty easy to understand how the other guy feels.
Wierd thing though, and the sword cuts both ways here, I would say only about 10% of drivers will give you a thank you wave, horn or tail light flash - noe-placeExplorer

Hi,
I'm not into life in the "fast lane". I'm wondering if anyone has information about a "slow moving vehicle" sticker that could be placed on my RV.
Does anyone use one or have one? sowego wrote:
The official slow moving sign we are all familiar with in the USA (triangle) is to be used on vehicles going "really" slow not just slower than the rest of the herd! I don't know if its legal to display one on any vehicle just because someone is going slower than the rest of the traffic.
It would be illegal in IL.
625 ILCS 5/12-709. Slow-moving vehicle emblem.
(a) Every animal drawn vehicle, farm tractor, implement of husbandry and special mobile equipment, when operated on a highway must display a slow-moving vehicle emblem mounted on the rear except as provided in paragraph (b) of this Section. Special mobile equipment is exempt when operated within the limits of a construction or maintenance project where traffic control devices are used in compliance with the applicable provisions of the manual and specifications adopted under Section 11-301 of the "Illinois Vehicle Code".
(paragraphs b and c talk about when SMV is obscured and description of SMV.)
(d) A slow-moving vehicle emblem is intended as a safety identification device and shall not be displayed on any vehicle nor displayed in any manner other than as described in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of this Section. A slow-moving vehicle emblem may not be displayed in public view from a highway on an object other than a vehicle or unit described in subsection (a) of this Section or a vehicle required to display a slow-moving vehicle emblem under subsection (e) of Section 11-1426.1 of this Code. A violation of this subsection (d) is a petty offense punishable by a fine of $75.- sowegoExplorerThe official slow moving sign we are all familiar with in the USA (triangle) is to be used on vehicles going "really" slow not just slower than the rest of the herd! Many RVers drive 62-63 in any zone above 60 and 55 in a 55. It saves fuel. Some people are irritated and believe a slower moving rig is a danger...the vehicles going over the speed limit is more of a danger. The real danger is the huge difference between those that go too fast and those that are minding the law. The faster rigs cann't slow down fast enough...yes, a danger but the blame should not land on the slower vehicle.
I think most motorist on our busy highways already realize RVs sometimes go slower and are very quick to pass. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi bguy,
Another useful bit of information! Thanks.bguy wrote:

As for travelling at the speed limit, there's no law that says you have to do so. People have every right to travel at any speed between the minimum and maximum. Some may think it inconsiderate but anybody who pays taxes has the right to use the road. Someone who has to regularly speed to get to their destination on time needs to allow more time for travel. Some may say that they can't allow for slow drivers bla bla.... Get over it, or get a jet. - sh410Explorer

Hi nomad,
If there is only one vehicle behind me and they are having difficulty passing, I do pull over, when it is safe and sane to do so.
Sounds as if you have "forum rage". Perhaps you are posting too fast?nomad297 wrote:

Why not wait until it's 10 vehicles? Or, maybe, just two? You obviously rule the road and are in control of how many people should be inconvenienced by you before you get out of the way. This is inconsiderate.
If you're going to be on the road, drive the speed limit or stay right. If there's not a lane to your right and you can't maintain the speed limit, get off of the road.

looks to me like a lot of people are posting too fast. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is the fool that passed me on the shoulder west of Talladega one day years back.

Nomad I am not required to drive the maximum allowable speed for your convenience.
No, you're not. It's just a simple matter of consideration for others. But, who else, other than you, matters? Are you one of those "me, me, me, me, me" types?
