We purchased a new elantra for our towd. Has good wide track and length for stability and weighs in at around 2800lbs. The back seats do lay down, that is how the wife decided what she wanted to get. The RV we got was about 200 miles away from us and we planned after the purchase for a quick trip with it to check it out. Part of the trip was taking canning supplies to my sister house! 50 lb sack of onions, 2-33lb boxes of green chilies, a crate or 2 of tomatoes, etc. So we rented an elantra and drove it up. Front seat for passenger is quit large and with all the room in back that was it. We towed ours about 5000 miles last summer and had only 1 issue, no charge line was wired in so we ended up installing one in Van Horne KOA on 2d day out. after that no issues. Yes you do put key in unlock steer wheel but thats about it. Gets about 30-32 in town and around 39-40 on highway. Put a roadmaster baseplate on it at Camp WOrld, run the SMI brake system with it. It just went over 6000 miles so it has almost as many tow as driven miles. Main reason not DD is I have ford ranger with 300000 miles on it for normal wear and tear, wife has honda accord as her car (yes an automatic) Did consider the ranger as a towed but it came in at almost 4000lbs on scale! So we went lighter and actually nicer. Did look at versa etc but the elanta has all electric mirrors, windows etc. Seats are manual adjust may try to find electric ones one day? Recent article have low ratings for the versqa and accent, etc. USA today had article as cars most likely not to be rebought by current owners!
