Best way to run an MW from a 1000 would be to get a big inverter and 4 batteries. Use the 1k to charge the batteries.

Dang, didn’t realize the Yamaha 1000 I use 99% of the time was so useless. :)

I have a 600 watt microwave that pulls an honest 950 watts that I run from a 1500 watt inverter while the Yamaha is running. The inverter and the generator (using the camper’s converter/charger) share the load of the microwave, and I can run it like that for almost an hour if needed.

We don’t boondock where air conditioning is needed, so I don’t need 1000 watts (or more) of unused generator capacity. Most of the time, my Yamaha is running in eco mode just barely off idle.

Nonsense. :R I've successfully started & run a variety of 13.5K BTU A/C units with 2 different EU2000i gensets, the only mod to the A/C being an SPP6 hard start cap. Had I known about the Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter Kit and installed that on these A/Cs there's no question an EU2000i would have handled the load even better. :B All that said, some prefer a 1000 watt genset over a 2000 watt simply because it's lighter, ~ 30 lbs vs ~ 50 lbs ... may not sound like much but we older folks look for lighter in everything we have for camping. :W

Your suggestion that a 2k generator is almost useless should be taken with a huge grain of salt. There is more than one way that other equipment could be added that would allow a 2k genny to run a 13500 btu roof air unit. Several folks here have done so successfully.

A 1K genny is basically useless. A 2K is almost useless (won't start any ac units) whereas a 2500 or 3K unit handles most everything. Price spread isn't all that much either.

Second hand information... I know of a fella with a 1000w inverter, had a 700w microwave that it would not run. Bought a 600w mw and has no problems.

Looked up the specs on a Daewoo 600w'er, input is still 1200w. It'll cost you $50 or so to find out if it'll work on your genny.

The problem is that the 700 watts is OUTPUT (cooking)power. According to GE, their 0.7 cu ft 700 watt microwave DRAWS 1500 watts from the AC supply, which is way above the 1000 watts the Honda genny can put out continuously.

You will have a hard time finding a microwave that draws under 1000 watts input power. Maybe a small inverter microwave on a low power level as someone mentioned already.

Best shot IMO is a Panasonic 'inverter' style microwave.

These actually reduce power when a lower power setting is chosen. Typical microwave just cycles power at lower settings. IIRC they get down to 500 watts input on the lower settings.
